MEASURE 1 - DEVELOPING STRATEGIC EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES SPINNINGFIELDS REDEVELOPMENT Organisation: Allied London Property Investments The project will provide high quality public realm, setting the standard for streets, squares and open spaces, and establish the alignment of routes into the major new Spinningfields development in the early phases of the development providing the setting for the new international business quarter in Manchester City Centre. IRWELL CORRIDOR MEDIA AND CREATIVE QUARTER FEASIBILITY STUDY PHASE A Organisation: Manchester City Council Manchester City Council has responsibility for delivery of this project on behalf of the wider Irwell Corridor Partnership. The Project involves the appointment of a Consultant to produce a detailed development framework to shape and influence the investment decisions of key partners. It will provide a clear vision statement and agenda with a single physical masterplan and a clear analysis of market needs identifying a range of development schemes and implementation issues. SPINNINGFIELDS REDEVELOPMENT – PUBLIC REALM PHASE 2 Organisation: Allied London Property Investments This project builds upon the earlier project and covers activities that continue to maintain the high quality of the Public Realm, streets, squares and open spaces within the major new Spinningfields Business Quarter of Manchester City Centre. MEASURE 2 - MAXIMISING THE ECONOMIC POTENTIAL OF THE NORTH WEST'S NATURAL, CULTURAL AND OTHER HERITAGE ASSETS JOHN RYLANDS LIBRARY Organisation: University of Manchester The John Rylands Library is one of Manchester's finest buildings and houses spectacular collections of enormous cultural significance, regionally, nationally and internationally but little exhibition space and no modern visitor facilities. The project will release the potential of the Library by creating a new entrance building to house essential visitor facilities and improve visitor circulation and access. More exhibition space will be created and essential conservation work to the building carried out. Website:
MANCHESTER, BOLTON AND BURY CANAL – MIDDLEWOOD Organisation: British Waterways This project will re-open the 1st 500 metres of the 15km Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal from the River Irwell. This work is being undertaken in conjunction with plans to redevelop the site known as Middlewood Locks. The canal, with its associated locks, basins, public spaces and environmental works will support the new mixed use development at Middlewood Locks in the heart of the city introducing new activity and vitality. It will assist the promotion of tourism, recreational and leisure facilities and help bring long term benefits for the regional and local economy. Website:
MEASURE 3 - CONNECTING WITH COMMUNITIES IN NEED SALFORD CENTRAL STATION Organisation: Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) Salford Central Station sits at the centre of an area of major development and growth but which lacks a significant transport interchange to support that growth. These developments include the Chapel Street Regeneration Area and Spinningfields among others. The project is the initial phase of a long term plan for Salford Central Station and will produce a train station with enhanced facilities, interchange between other modes of transport, improved security, improved forms of passenger information and improved access.
