Irwell Corridor Economic Development Zone

EU logoThe Irwell Corridor Economic Development Zone (EDZ) is a unique partnership led by the cities of Salford and Manchester that aims to create a new business quarter in this key gateway area, consolidating the City Pride vision of a European Regional Capital and an international City of outstanding commercial, cultural and creative potential.

The EDZ was approved by Government Office for the North West in September 2002 under Priority 3, Strategic Regional Investment, of the North West of England Objective 2 Programme 2000 – 2006:

"to secure significant additional employment, investment and income for the North West Objective 2 area by investing in Economic Development Zones based around new employment opportunities and economic diversification in a manner that supports the Programme’s sustainable development principles."

There are 3 Measure Objectives designed to develop and deliver the Priority activities:

  • Measure 1 - Developing strategic employment opportunities.
  • Measure 2 - Maximising the economic potential of the North West's natural, cultural and other heritage assets.
  • Measure 3 - Connecting with communities in need.
